The Ottawa Lookout adheres to the journalistic standards and principles outlined by the Canadian Association of Journalists (CAJ) and The Canadian Press.
To that effect, the Lookout strives for accuracy and impartiality and does not unpublish or remove published work except in specific circumstances, consistent with the CP’s principles and the CAJ’s studies on the ethics of unpublishing.:
Corrections and updates to published work:
Correction of factual errors: If a report contains a factual inaccuracy, a correction or update is possible. The correction will typically be noted in the original story.
Significant change in legal status: An update of the story to reflect the new information. However, the original story may not be removed.
Exceptional circumstances: In very rare cases, we may consider a removal request if there are exceptional circumstances. Any such decision would be made by senior news management.
In general, removal or deletion of published works due to source remorse will not be considered due to the importance of maintaining historical record.
