Ullmark performance not enough to save Senators

The team lost 3-2 against the Edmonton Oilers

Better luck next time: Ottawa Senators goalie Linus Ullmark put on a spectacular show, but it wasn't enough as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Sens 3-2 in overtime at Canadian Tire Centre Tuesday night.

Edmonton captain Connor McDavid broke out of his slump late in the first period with a power-play goal with Tim Stützle. in the penalty box.

  • The Oilers took a 2-0 lead just 49 seconds into the second period as Isaac Howard scored his first NHL goal.

So close to victory: Trailing 2-0 as the third period began, Dylan Cozens put the Sens on the scoreboard just 13 seconds after the faceoff. Thomas Chabot tied the score 1:49 into the third with a shot from the point that somehow got through traffic and past Edmonton goalie Stuart Skinner.

Ullmark was brilliant with a couple of big saves in the third, forcing overtime.

Stutzle took his second penalty of the game in the overtime period. It was his second of the game, and both were stick infractions.

Ullmark was again brilliant as the Senators killed most of the four-on-three Oilers power play. With five seconds left, play was blown dead as Ullmark's mask came off after absorbing a hard shot from the point.

The play resulted in a face-off, the Oilers won the draw and got the puck back to the point, where Jake Walman ripped a slapshot glove side, past Ullmark, for the 3-2 OT win.

Next game: The loss leaves the Sens with a 2-4-1 record for five points. Ottawa hosts the Philadelphia Flyers Thursday at 7 pm.
