One of the big-ticket items at city council last week was new growth projections for the City of Ottawa. These projections guide Ottawa’s growth management strategy and set the tone for updates, planning and infrastructure to ensure the city can accommodate ongoing population growth.
The government of Ontario requires municipalities to use forecasts from the Ministry of Finance as the foundation for long-range planning, but the Ministry only provides population figures—not direct housing or employment projections. The City must analyze how population estimates will translate into housing and employment needs within the City.
