Hi Lookout readers,

The year is almost over, we have a small favour to ask you.

Local media is struggling in Ottawa and across Canada. Journalists are losing their jobs as big media companies seek to generate bigger profits.

We started publishing the Ottawa Lookout just over two years ago. We’re trying to do our small part to fix local journalism, by bringing you the stories and information you need to understand Ottawa, and over 50,0000 of you have joined!

We’re launching a year-end survey to hear directly from you about the stories you want covered and how we can make local news even better for Ottawa.

Your feedback is critical as we prepare for 2024. When we ran a similar survey last year, readers like you chose overwhelmingly that we should launch a city hall-focused newsletter — and we did!

Now we want to do even more. We’ve got big plans for next year. Interviews with city experts, bigger restaurant reviews, deep-dives into complex policy issues, holding local politicians accountable — it’s a big list.

But we want to know what we should prioritize. We’re hoping 500 people will complete the survey before next Tuesday. Will you take our short survey to help improve local Ottawa news?
