Purchasing a garbage dump

It was a busy day for city council last week as councillors kicked off the first official council meeting of 2026 with deliberations that lasted nearly six hours.

One of the big ticket items was an update from staff on the city’s purchase of the Capital Region Resource Recovery Centre (CRRRC), an east-end property intended for use as a garbage dump.

Much of the process surrounding the bidding and acquisition of the site has been confidential due to an NDA the city entered into with the sellers, Taggart Miller Environmental Services Inc. Now, in an effort to “provide full transparency”, city staff have shared details about the process with the public.
