A proposal to extend the urban boundary to allow the development of more than 360 homes has been rejected by city councillors, though not without debate and division.

The lands at 5971 Flewellyn Road, 1770 Shea Road, and 1820 Shea Road are south of Stittsville and beside Magnolia Homes, a subdivision that is currently in progress and for sale by developer Caivan.

In hopes of extending the residential development, Caivan applied for the neighbouring lands to be added to the urban boundary, permitting the construction of 360 homes.

But city staff recommended that councillors refuse the application, and after debate at the city’s planning and housing committee, council voted to block the expansion and maintain the current urban boundary.
