A mixed bag for Ottawa sports teams this week
Some wins and some loses for Ottawa's teams

Ottawa sports scorebaord
🏈 Redblacks lost 39-19 against the Montreal Alouettes
🏀 Niagara River Lions beat the Ottawa Blackjacks 90-89
⚾️ Ottawa Titans lost 11-4 against the Trois-Rivières Aigles
⚽️ Rapid FC lost to The Montreal Roses 2-1
⚽️ Atletico Ottawa beat Winnipeg’s Valour FC 3-0
The Redblacks need to turn things around quickly.
Starting with a loss: The Ottawa Redblacks suffered yet another defeat at the hands of the Montreal Alouettes in front of a healthy crowd for the home opener at TD Place Friday night.
The Alouettes’ 39-18 win was their ninth straight against Ottawa. Even more difficult to digest for Redblacks fans is that the Alouettes have now won 11 straight games over the Redblacks at TD Place Stadium, dating back to 2018.
With starting quarterback Dru Brown sidelined with a hip injury, back-up Matthew Shiltz threw three interceptions. He completed 22 of 32 passes for 205 yards and a touchdown pass to Bralon Addison.
The Redblacks take their 0-2 record into Calgary Sat., June 21.
Senators sign Thomson
The Ottawa Senators have signed defenceman Lassi Thomson to a two-way contract for the 2025-26 season.
Thomson, 24, was Ottawa’s first-round selection (19th overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft. He spent the 2024-25 season with Malmo in the Swedish Hockey League, compiling 17 goals and 29 points in 50 games.
The defenceman has appeared in 18 NHL games with the Senators, collecting five assists.
Niagara beats Blackjacks
2022 Canadian Elite Basketball League MVP Khalil Ahmad scored 11 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead the Niagara River Lions to a 90-89 victory over the Ottawa BlackJacks.
“We just changed a few things on defense,” BlackJacks head coach Dave DeAveiro said post-game. “Sometimes as coaches you complicate things when you don’t need to. Just kept it simple in the second half and guys really stepped up and played a lot harder. We made the change, and I thought our guys did a tremendous job.”
By the numbers: Despite the disappointing outcome, a number of players on the BlackJacks had standout performances. Isaih Moore had 23 points – including 15 in the second quarter – and added 16 rebounds, finishing one shy of the team's regular-season record in his first game since suffering an injury on May 21.
Titans lose to Trois-Rivieres
The Ottawa Titans (11-21) fell into an early hole and were unable to recover, dropping Sunday's finale 11-4 to the Trois-Rivières Aigles (12-21), snapping the team's three-game winning streak.
The Titans' southpaw Shane Telfer was removed from the game following two and a third, allowing seven runs on 11 hits, walking two, and striking out three.
Next game: After a day off on Monday, the Ottawa Titans continue the homestand with the first of a three-game series against the Sussex County Miners on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at Ottawa Stadium. All the action can be heard on CKDJ 107.9 and 94,5 Unique FM and live-streamed on Frontier League TV, powered by HomeTeam Network.
Atletico Ottawa wins
Atletico Ottawa solidified their spot in first place in the Canadian Premier League standings with a 3-0 win over Valour FC of Winnipeg at TD Place Stadium Sunday night.
Ballou Tabla opened the scoring for Ottawa in extra time of the first half, scoring on a penalty kick.
In the second half, Samuel Salter scored on a header in the 50th minute, and then Gabriel Antinoro blasted a shot past the Valour keeper from the right side inside the 18-yard box in the 72nd minute.
Ottawa keeper Nathan Ingham made five saves, including a pair of big ones in the dying minutes to preserve the shutout.
Rapid FC beaten by Montreal
The Montreal Roses were at TD Place Stadium Saturday for their professional women’s soccer match against Ottawa Rapid FC. Tanya Boychuk and Latifah Abdu scored Montreal goals while Delaney Pridham scored for Ottawa as the visitors won 2-1. The win secured Montreal’s spot in first place in the Northern Super League while Ottawa is in third place.
